Ready to tell the world about your project? Here's how to post your project to the World Wide Waldens Project Showcase.
Showcase Builder Instructions
- Your teacher or an adult advisor needs to register for a World Wide Waldens account. They will then create a project account for you/your group.
- Login with your student project account.
- You will see your project listed on your My Walden Project page. Click the title or Edit to open your Showcase page.
- Use the template to build your page. It's always best to plan your page before you begin posting! Think about the story you want to tell. Collect photos and other materials and store them in one place. Draft answers to questions offline then copy/paste them into the template.
- Remember to click Save often.
- Ask members of your group or other people to review your page and give you feedback. You can view projects other students in your class are working on online from your My Walden Project page. You will see them listed in an area below your own project.
- When your Showcase page is ready, click the Review & Submit tab.
- Review the Checklist. Did you complete everything?
- Add any comments you have for your teacher.
- Click Send to Teacher for Review.
- Your teacher/advisor will receive an email notifying them that you have submitted your project for review. Your teacher will review the project and approve it (submit it to Walden staff for review) or return it to you for additional work. Note: Students do not receive email notification when a teacher returns an incomplete project. You need to login to your My Walden Project to check the status of your project.
- Once your teacher approves your project, Walden staff will review it and publish it "live" to the Showcase for everyone to see! Note: You cannot make changes after the project is added to the Gallery. Your teacher should contact Walden staff at education@walden.org you need to "unpublish" the page or make changes.
- Share your project! You can find it in the Showcase and email a link to a friend, grandparent, the local newspaper - anyone!
Other Story Ideas and Page Creation Tips
- Respond to Project Showcase page questions as a group. Use strategies like 'Top 10 Lists' to get ideas from everyone. For example: Top 10 Things We Wish We Knew before We Started).
- Browse through project pictures and pick the best of the best for your main project images. Choose pictures as if you were a visitor to your site. Which images will help people see the essence or spirit of the project? Which work best in thumbnail size (main image)?
- Do you have a strong writer on your team? Ask them to do the project description. You might write this response last. Answering the other template questions often helps you discover the best or most important information for the description.
- Review other materials you created or used during your project. Do you have a flyer? A handout with information about the project? What would be helpful to other students interested in a similar project?
- Create a Google Earth Tour that shows your country, region, community, and project location.
- Think about quotable moments during your project. Did anyone say something inspiring that you will always remember? Did any of the Thoreau quotations or passages you read inspire you? Is there a Thoreau quote that fits your project particularly well?
